Reporting Press Release – D.C.P v2.0 National Workshop Greece, Athens 07.10.2022

The Institute of Research & Training on European Affairs – I.R.T.E.A, as part of the European project Digital Civic Participation – D.C.P v2.0, organized two workshops on October 7, 2022, with a total duration of 6 hours on the topic of “Digital Tools for Participation.” The participants were 30 young people between the ages of 18 and 30.
During the event, a presentation was given to the participants regarding the functionalities of Digital Tools, as well as an analysis of good practices at both national and European levels. In the first workshop, the participants were asked to identify and analyze two digital Participatory tools, one at the European level and one at the national level. Through this research, the participants were able to analyze and understand the functioning of a digital participation tool, as well as to see its different uses and forms.
In the second workshop, a presentation was made on the process of structuring a digital participation tool, which the participants were then asked to apply by creating a process for implementation at the national level. This allowed the participants to gain an insider’s view of the structuring process, the impact a process can have, and the obstacles that may arise during implementation.

The “DCP v2.0” project aims to document and analyze the digital tools used in EU countries and create a user-friendly manual on how and in what circumstances they can be used. The purpose of the manual is to be easily accessible and usable by everyone, in order to further expand its use in the decision-making process at the local level.
The project’s actions include:
- Studying and exploring existing citizen participation tools and methods.
- Presenting these tools to all members of society through practical examples and an easily understandable manner, making them accessible and implementable.
- Training and empowering both young people and municipal officials in the use of digital tools for participatory democracy.
- Identifying and exchanging “best practices” in the field of digital participation among European municipalities.
- Enhancing digital participation with the ultimate goal of increasing citizens’ direct engagement with digital tools.
The project will last for 24 months and will target young people aged 15-30, as well as municipal officials working in the youth sector who are interested in being informed and participating in the process of shaping tools for participatory democracy and innovative e-democracy tools for their municipality.
