Reporting Press Release on WP 7 – 11
The goal of this Working Package was to educate, train and empower both young citizens and municipal employees on e-participation tools and concepts such as e-democracy, participatory approaches for local governance, etc.
The consortium agreed to work as in the first WP 1-5, for that reason we agreed upon one common methodology to implement our workshop, with this strategy we aim to have common results and ensure the quality of them. Our priority as a consortium was to connect the Youth with the Municipal employees (decision makers), in order for the Employees to be familiarized with the digital tool, which is one of the observations that we have done during the project, the lack of knowledge and information on digital tools, moreover by connecting the Youth with the Municipal Employees or any decision-makers we achieve to fill in the gap that has been created.
Between January and May 2023, the consortium implemented 10 workshops in total with a total participation of more than 100 Young People and Municipal Employees. The workshops featured experts and guest speakers who shared their insights on digital participation, its potential to enhance democracy, and the challenges and opportunities that come with it. Participants engaged in lively and informative discussions, exploring various use cases of digital tools and found out about uses that they didn’t know before.
Our next steps…
Following the WP7-11 and based on the schedule of the Project our 2 st International Activity will take place, in Athens, entitled ‘’Young Peoples Hackathon’’.
At this event, we plan to incorporate the tools that have been already identified and analyzed in the draft of our handbook in order to tackle the specific local needs of the partner countries.
Few words about the project:
The “DCP v2.0” project also aims to record and analyze digital tools used in EU countries and to establish a user-friendly manual on how and under what circumstances can be used. The purpose of the manual is to be able to be used easily by all, so as to further enlarge its use in the decision-making process at a local level.
The consortium of the project comprises of:
1. Institute Of Research & Training On European Affairs – I.R.T.E.A. – Lead Partner, Greece
2. Municipality Of Cinisello Balsamo – Italy
3. Municipality Of Starachowice – Poland
4. PONT Group – Romania
5. Municipality Of Klaipeda – Lithuania
The project’s activities concern:
• The study and investigation of existing tools and methods of e-participation tools
• The presentation of these tools to all members of the society in practical and understandable examples to all, making them accessible and achievable.
• Training, education and empowerment of both young and municipal officials with digital participatory democracy tools
• Identify and exchange “good practices” in the field of digital participation between European partners
• Enhancing digital participation with the goal of increasing the involvement of
citizens with digital tools.
